This is a new course for 2008, developed in response to demand from existing course clients. It provides 5 days of intensive hands-on training on pressure system components. The course is certificated by ASME under our ASME authorised global training agreement. It is suitable for:

  • Engineers and technicians with existing NDT and/or inspection qualifications (CSWIP etc) who wish to develop their hands-on experience in pressure systems inspection.
  • 'Competent Persons' involved in the inspection of pressure equipment for 'minor' and 'intermediate' pressure systems under The Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSRs): 2000.

Entry requirements

The nature of the practical work requires that delegates have a reasonable understanding of plant engineering and NDT processes. Formal CSWIP/PCN/ASNT qualifications are not essential but delegates should have experience of witnessing NDT procedures and reviewing the results. Previous experience of pressure systems and general in-service inspection of mechanical plant will be an advantage. There will be a CV assessment for entry to this course.

Course locations

Each course is held at one of several plant workshops/ training colleges locations around the UK. The hands-on training is carried out in a workshop /simulated site environment using actual pieces of pressure equipment and mechanical plant.

Course activities

Delegates take part in structured inspection activities including specifying and reviewing NDT results, corrosion and defect assessment and inspection reporting. Some of the activities are carried out in groups and some individually. The course examination consists of both written and practical assessment exercises. The schedule below shows the course content.

Delegate equipment

All necessary inspection aids, measuring equipment, tools etc necessary for the course will be provided. Delegates are however required to provide their own personal protective equipment (PPE) comprising:
