Our courses are designed to benefit technicians and engineers from a wide variety of engineering backgrounds, so there are no formal entry requirements. For this reason, all courses include formal pass/fail examinations with a nominal pass mark of 70%.
Examination Format
Examinations for classroom courses consist of a combination of multiple choice and description questions. Features include:
- Questions are specifically designed to test candidates' reasoning and decision-making rather than simply reproducing answers 'by rote' as presented in the course material.
- Description questions require answers that demonstrate candidates' skills in careful and accurate report-writing. This is a key part of the plant inspection role.
In addition, the practical hands-on courses contain practical examinations in the form of equipment stripdown/inspection/assessment/reporting exercise, as applicable.
Certificates
Delegate certificates are issued for course modules in which a pass has been obtained. For modules that are failed, delegates are either issued with a certificate of attendance, or have the option of a resit. All certificates show the delegate's name, with the option of their employer, if specifically requested by their employer or sponsor.

Resits
Resits are only necessary for those course modules that a delegate fails, i.e. it is not necessary to resit the complete course. First resits are taken as a (new) written paper - candidates attend a subsequent course at a suitable location. Second resits are by agreement - in some cases it will be necessary for the candidate to re-attend the failed modules at a subsequent course.
